Music for Practice

Tea

This music is truly beautiful. It is delightfully tranquil without being dull, and does have an enticing journey-ing quality in its succession of moods. An intriguing blend of new with various older Asian rhythms and instruments.

Taiji Melody

A very good CD for Taijiquan practice. In general, the music is at a good tempo, and easy to listen to. The only real problem with the CD is the 24 movement form track. At just over 6 minutes long, it's actually too short for advanced students who perform the form slower than that. However, this problem can be avoided by using one of the other tracks (I've found the last two best).

Tai Chi

The idea of practicing Tai Chi to music if fairly new and the music on "Tai Chi" is especially created for those who are new to this form of therapeutic exercise. One of the goals is to realize the simplicity of being and to work toward unifying the body and soul with harmonious movement. Lust strings, elegant piano, twinkling bells, sinuous flutes, and soft vocals provide the listener with just over an hour of beautiful music. For those at an intermediate or advanced level, the music provides an ideal environment for liberating the mind and body of old and inhibited thoughts and movements. It is also a pleasure to simply listen to.

Guided Meditations: For Developing Calmness, Awareness, and Love
by Bodhipaksa

This is hands-down the best meditation CD I've come across. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. It's not tarted up with hokey sound effects and New Age music but is simply the teacher's (very pleasant) voice, guiding you to calm and relaxation. His approach is highly accessible for Westerners and really taught me how to meditate. I'm such a big fan of this CD, in fact, that I've bought at least four to give as gifts to stressed-out friends and family members. (One of the recipients was a voice teacher who said she could listen to him all night.) If you like what you hear, you should also check out the outstanding online meditation courses he offers on www.wildmind.org. I can't recommend the CD or the courses highly enough.
