Breathing and Tai Chi Associated Press
Monday, April 09, 2007

If you are looking for new ways to control your asthma, you may be interested in this: New research shows that Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese exercise involving a coordinated breathing and body movements, can help people with asthma better control their breathing, as well as improve their exercise performance.

Scientists in Thailand enrolled 17 adults with persistent asthama in a six-week tai chi training program.

The patients attended supervised exercise once a week, followed by daily home-based exercise. At the end of the training the patients were more comfortable on a six-minute walk. They also increased their maximum work rate and maximum oxygen consumption, and reported improvements in quality of life measures.
