The Five Senses

Preparation
Sit Comfortably, Head above (in the heavens), the body below (grounded in the earth.

It is very important that the body is relaxed, comfortable, not restricted by tight clothes.

Relax the body, each muscle, the bones within, become aware of the blood flowing through the body, the beating of the heart.

Listen to the breath, slow the breathing, in and out through the nose if possible, if not then in through the nose and out through the mouth. Beating should be quiet, peaceful, unless of course you have a breathing problem, in which case breath in a comfortable manner four you.

We are going on a journey, a very safe journey, a peaceful and very personal journey, the body is safe, so let the mind travel freely.


See/Look
Gaze into the horizon, let the eyes rest on the distance, it may be the ocean, mountains, green fields or a rich deep forest.

Do not look at anything in particular, just absorb the distance, become aware of the expanse of the horizon. Relax and enjoy.

Start to move towards the horizon, walking is an option, you can float, drift, fly towards the distance. Do not chase the horizon. Let it fall before you.


Touch/Feel
As you move towards the horizon, you see a great tree reaching into the heavens, you are unable to see the top of the tree it extends beyond your sight.

Move closer to the tree, it is safe. The tree is very old, as old as time itself, the tree has lived through many life times, It measures time using it's own scale.

Extend your arms out towards the tree, and as you move slowly towards the tree, you become aware of how small you are, yet you are just as important as the tree. Everything lives together. One is not greater than another.

Finally, you make physical contact with the tree. As you feel is hardened exterior you can sense it's depth, is age, The tree knows you are there, as you know it stands before you. Run your hands over the bark, feel its hardness. Above you is a branch, you climb into the branch which supports your weight with ease. Walking along the branch you come across a large nest, in the nest is a feather.

Take the feather, and feel the softness, the gentle caress, run it across your face, it feels like a gentle kiss, a whisper. Very different from the tree, yet no less important. Enjoy the experience.


Hear/Listen
In the distance you hear a sound, the most beautiful sound you have ever heard, let it's voice envelop you. Placing the feather back in the nest, you gently move towards the sound, leaving the tree behind, knowing that one day you will return to the safety of its branches.

The sound draws you to a cave, large, cool and inviting. A gentle stream runs through the cave. Listen to it dance across the rocks as it enjoys it's personal journey. You want to stay and listen to the stream, but you are drawn forward into the cave by the sound.

Once inside the cave, you become encased in the sweet sound. It is the song of life, and now you add your voice. You become part of the sound, the sound becomes a part of you. You know that this sound will always be with you wherever you travel.


Smell
As time passes within the cave, you become aware of a great hunger within, a need for nourishment. You move towards the entrance of the cave, gazing into the horizon once more. A gentle breeze caresses your skin, and along with it you can smell the most delightful scent. You decide to move towards the wonderful fragrance, knowing that you can return anytime to the sounds of the cave.

The fragrance draws you to a great field of flowers, which open up before you, then close behind you. You are very safe. The flowers offer the gift of their fragrance to you and ask nothing in return, each smell is unique on its own but together they create an intoxicating aroma.

The fragrance feeds your soul, making you feel truly alive.

With each flower a new aroma adds to overall, Alone each fragrance is perfect, together, they form an harmonious symphony.


Taste
The journey is long and hunger pulls you forwards to the horizon. As you move forward you know you can return anytime time the fragrance of the soul. You do not need to look behind, the sweet fragrance reminds you.

The horizon pulls you forwards until eventually the sun fades and dusk start to settle, looking for place to rest, you enter a small hut with the warm glow of a fire and a table set with all manner of foods. You know the food is a gift for you and the hut a safe place to rest.

You cast your eyes over the food, the aroma fills your senses, slowly, so as to not gorge your hunger you start to eat, slowly. Each mouthful tastes better than the one before. One mouthful at a time, allowing the food to fully dissolve in the mouth, before taking another, until the body becomes sated.

Looking around you find an inviting bed, gently you lie and rest. Peaceful, nourished, safe, knowing that tomorrows journey, will bring new gifts, new experiences.

Gently you rest your eyes.....


Experience the journey. The destination will take care of itself.
