Why Tai Chi? . . . Why not!
Seriously. My love of the martial arts started at an early age (eons ago). A child in a school not noted for its compassion towards others, including those in the earlier grades. . . Me!
The martial arts, was a way to learn to defend oneself. But as time moved forward, need turned to love, then finally to a way of living ones life. Self defense became less and less important, while the philosophical aspects of the art became the driving force behind my journey.
You learn very quickly that it is not the destination, it is the journey. Wake each day with a smile, find pleasure in the simple and mundane, mine is washing dishes. I do not know why, but i find peace in the act dish washing! Love family and friends (a difficult task at times!). Do not be afraid. Help a stranger. Share. I could go on and on, but you understand. Just be honest.
The internal arts are perfect for me, they may not be for you, but for me as an interdependant person, the path was clear. I tried many arts, many schools, many teachers. After all, you will be spending a good portion of your life to the study of the art.
My early years were out of neccesity and what was available. My world expanded as i grew, and so did my thust for knowledge.
Realizing in my early twenties, that the body needs to be taken care of, if it is to survive the rigors of life. After all, without a body, how would we eat?
